Comparison Rules

The selected economies must share the comparison year. The default is the latest common year, and values from another year are never substituted.

  • Results update immediately when an input changes.
  • Wages use PPP-adjusted average annual wage values.
  • Price indices use United States = 100 as the reference.
  • Missing data is shown as –; the tool never fills zero, interpolates, or falls back to another year.

Why Use a Common Year?

Comparing wages from different reporting years mixes real wage differences with calendar effects. A single shared year keeps every economy on the same footing.

How PPP-Adjusted Wages Work

PPP adjustment expresses each average annual wage in a common purchasing-power frame, so the comparison reflects what wages can buy rather than raw exchange-rate conversions.

Comparison Limitations

A common-year view is a snapshot. It does not capture within-country distribution, tax differences, or non-wage benefits, and missing years are never substituted.
